My Iphone Experience
My phone evolution in order: Nokia 5110, Treo 700wx, Blackjack II, Iphone. There are so many great cell phones today. I remember having to sit in my dad’s truck using an old “Bag Cell Phone” to talk to my girlfriend, and I am only 24 years old. Technology has made absolutely amazing advances since I was a kid. It’s exciting to think what all this will look like in another 10-15 years.
Our cell phones have become far more than just talking devices, now we are instantly connected to everything and everyone. Managing our Finances, Family, Work, and Friends. Tools available at our finger tips to use where, when, and how we want.
I purchased the iPhone in December. I could not imagine going back to an older device, it would be like returning from windows 7 to windows 98. Just in the first 2 weeks I spent over $100 on iPhone Apps. Granted one of those was a $30 app.
Below are some screenshots of my apps, and I picked out a few to mention.
Tweetie
Best Twitter App hands down. I joined twitter back in October of 2007. Keeps me connected to some really great people, a great source of information, hear breaking news before even CNN reports on it. I could go on here.
Gowalla, Whrrl, Foursquare, Loopt
I’m really holding out for the next release and announcements for Gowalla. Currently you can check in at businesses, restaurants, and any other place of interest. Your friends see some of the places you frequent, you see there frequent places, share tips to anyone that visits a place you have checked in at, and so much more. The application for these social location apps is an amazing evolution in our future.
Waze
One of my favorite and most used apps. Their web site says it best, “Real-time maps and traffic information based on the wisdom of the crowd”. GPS Turn-by-Turn Navigation with the added ability to share information with other Waze users. Such as Traffic Accidents, Police Traps, Slow Traffic, so much more, and with related photos. There is a great feeling with pin pointing a speed trap, saving your fellow Waze users behind you.
ShopSavvy
Scan a bar code at walmart, find a better deal online.
Games: Let’s golf!, MX Mayhem, Traffic Rush, FlightControl, Warheads, HookLite, and Angry Birds
I’ve probably logged more time on FlightControl than any of the others. If you are stuck waiting somewhere, or you are laying in your little girl’s floor watching Kung Fu Panda for the 134th time, these great games are fun distractions.
Guitar Tookit
Every guitar player needs this app. Comes with a Tuner, Metronome, and Chord Book. Looks amazing and functions accordingly.
LogMeIn
This was the $30 app. It is extremely useful, I can log in and control my desktop from anywhere. Moving some files into Dropbox seems to be my primary use for this. To many times do I need a file from my home computer and I’m on my laptop.
Billings
I’m way to busy with freelance work, and Billings helps me keep up with invoices, and any time that needs recorded. You can email invoices from the app.
Apps for Kids: TalkingCarl, iTot Cards
Kara isn’t even 2 years old and she can already unlock my iPhone, scroll the pictures, play videos, and play her games. It’s scary. TalkingCarl is her favorite. Carl repeats what you say, you can tickle him, poke him in the eyes, and he says bye-bye when you close the app. Even keeps me entertained. ITot cards is an excellent flash card app. It has no doubt helped her learn many new words. If you have a young child these two are a must have.

2010 A New Year
Wow, I cannot believe 2009 has already flown by. I can’t even believe we are 10 years into the millennium. Trying to enjoy my youth while I can.
Before I get into my goals for 2010, let’s take a quick look at my life in 2009.
My daughter turned 1 in the first part of the year. She has made huge changes from then and now. She’s putting words together, making me imaginary food in her little kitchen, telling me no, getting more dramatic, and the lists goes on. What was my world like without her? I said over and over I wanted a boy first, but now I would not have had it any other way. There is something special about a dad and daughter relationship.
Career Opportunities. I started the year working for The Log Cabin Democrat in Conway. Met some really great people, was a good job, and was sad to leave. Bryan Jones from CJRW in Little Rock contacted me and offered me a job. Let me tell ya, I am not a fan of change. So making a big decision of change, with a daughter at home, to leave a new job and begin a new, was not easy. It’s fair to say I almost didn’t take it. I had just adjusted from a life of freelancing and working at home, to working for a company in an office; something I had not done in a couple of years. But I had met Bryan from Refresh and CJRW seemed like a great opportunity. I soon discovered that was an understatement. CJRW has been the best move of my career. The company is strong and passionate. The people of I have met here and through CJRW, are talented and exceptional people. I have made friends, and learned new things. I hope that my journey here continues for years to come.
The starting of a geek/nerd group. Cotton Rohrscheib and I got together one afternoon to chat about Wordpress, Drupal, and other geeky things. Both of us for some time had been wanting to get some other guys (and gals) like ourselves together. Pick each others brains and just meet new people. That is how the Central Arkansas Refresh Group came about. You can read more about that from a post Cotton wrote, here. It’s gone from 20 people in the first meeting to 60+ now. We have 150+ members on our facebook page. We have some ideas for Refresh in 2010 that we hope will continue to grow and strengthen the group. I will be speaking at Refresh in January, about the Wordpress plugin Pods. Details will be up on the site very soon.
I could write additional lengthy posts on these and other things that have been going on. But there is one more that I want to make mention of, that will one day get a much more lengthy post.
The greatest parents anyone could ask for. I have no idea how I am going to trim down what I could say about my parents into a moderate paragraph. I was truly blessed to have the parents and siblings that I have. Growing up we did not have a lot of money at times, but we had each other, and we had a blast. My parents bought land in 1996, moved out there on a dream, and built there house. It helps that my dad is a carpenter, but it wasn’t his crew that built the house, it was us. We managed to survive living in close quarters for years. But this year, my parents are being blessed, they have started adding on to their home; building their dream house. My dad has worked too hard is whole life, and I am glad to see him get what he has dreamed of. Oh, and guess what, family is still the hands building it. Primarily him and my brother.
Wow. After writing all this down, what a year I had. I pray that 2010 will only be better. We don’t know what is in store for us tomorrow, I just trust God and live life to the fullest.
A New Year. I have a few goals, here’s a list:
- Get back into shape. I am sure this is on everyones list. My goal is to lose 22 pounds. Got my dailyburn iphone app, p90x, and motivation. Begin!
- Learn. Learn all that I can, about everything I can. This has always been the driving force behind everything I do.
- Career. I hope to get a few more clients this year. But I plan to do less freelancing, focusing on CJRW and my family.
- Big Idea. I’ve watched many ideas pass me by, and others fail and succeed. This new year I hope to launch my Big Idea that i’ve been secretly working on.
- Meet new people. I have never been much of a people person. But with facebook and twitter, connecting with people has been easier, and has peaked my interest. I have made new friends this last year, and hope to strengthen those friendships, and make more.
- Grow Spiritually. I’ll admit, my relationship with God, though growing and great, is not what it should or could have been. I also want to give more to others and love others.
- Most Importantly. Enjoy my friends and family. Life is fragile, and short. Live it to the fullest.
Oh, and I got an iPhone!

My favorite hot sauce
I came across this hot sauce at Firehouse Subs. On a scale from 1-10, on how hot it is, they give it a 9.
The hottest hot sauce I’ve ever had is from there called Da Bomb. By request only.

Geekee Scrollable Wordpress Plugin
For a couple of months or more now, I have been working on my site GeekeeMedia.com. There are still a few things needed to be styled and tested before I launch the site, more on that coming soon. With the launch of the site I will be releasing two plugins that I have developed for the site.
Originally this plugin was just for my site, but I thought it might be something some of you can use. It’s primary purpose is as a gallery/slider, ideally for portfolio’s. Thoughts and opinions are welcome.
The plugin is actually is ready to be public, at least the 1st version. I am however waiting to launch it with my new Geekee Media web site.
