Building a social network with Drupal
Drupal can be very intimidating at first glance. Out of the box it provides you with the basics to creat a Page and Story (Post). Where Drupal really excels is the many powerful modules available to build a system to accomplish just about anything. Though intimidating, it’s not near as complicated as it seems.
I will be presenting at the Refresh Central Arkansas Meetup on May 25th at 6:00pm. Demonstrating how to build a social network in Drupal.
Even if you intend to build a social network, you will learn enough about the modules to build several types of sites. The demonstration will be 45 + minutes with about 30 minutes Q&A.
A list of modules that will be used:
- Panels
- CCK
- Imagecache
- Views
- Flag
- Flag Friend
- Content Profile
- and few others
Hopefully we can get some video, audio, or screencast of the presentation to share with those who cannot make it.
If you haven’t already, join Refresh Central Arkansas on Facebook and Twitter. There will be a Twitvite or Facebook Event created soon. Be sure to RSVP.

Geekee Scrollable Wordpress Plugin
For a couple of months or more now, I have been working on my site GeekeeMedia.com. There are still a few things needed to be styled and tested before I launch the site, more on that coming soon. With the launch of the site I will be releasing two plugins that I have developed for the site.
Originally this plugin was just for my site, but I thought it might be something some of you can use. It’s primary purpose is as a gallery/slider, ideally for portfolio’s. Thoughts and opinions are welcome.
The plugin is actually is ready to be public, at least the 1st version. I am however waiting to launch it with my new Geekee Media web site.

Mind mapping Drupal site module structure
Wanted to share something I have began doing to help manage the different Drupal Modules that I use for various project types. Specifically I am working on a fairly large social network type website.
While a good part of the site has been built, I began mind mapping the module structure and their relations.
I am using the XMind – an open source software for mind mapping. Here is a screenshot of my progress.
You can download the file here: Drupal Social Network Module Mind Map (178)
